Drug addiction is serious. If you’re researching rehab centers or treatment programs, this blog will help you understand basic theories, treatments, risks and costs.
2. Who Pays for drug rehabilitation?
3. The Twelve Steps
4. Stages of Change
5. Rehabilitation of Drug and Harm Reduction Model
6. Detoxification
7. Inpatient treatment
8. Treatment at outpatient
9. Who needs it?1. Rehabilitation of the drugs – information
“Drugs” refers to any addictive chemical substance. Drugs may be illegal (eg, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamines) or legal (prescription narcotic painkillers, Valium, alcohol). Although some people have problems with addictive behavior like gambling or pilfering these are different from other drug addiction, these behaviors require different treatment approaches and is not taken into account in this article about drugs. The drug rehab referred to here is the addictive drugs, and different types of rehabilitation methods.

Rehabilitation refers to restoring the sick or injured person’s ability to care for themselves. Thus, the role of drug rehab is to help a person whose addiction to drugs has interfered with your life to become a fully functioning member of society. Drug Rehabilitation focuses on the whole person and make him or her heal again, as if it were anyone who had a disease like cancer. Some programs see themselves as successful only if the person ceases to use in the treatment of addictive substances. Others claim success if the person is able to moderate their use to be no longer interfering with his life.

The drug rehab can take place in a facility or an ambulatory patient. May be overseen by professionals such as doctors, psychotherapists, social workers, etc.., Or may be offered by the laity as former addicts. Many drug rehab centers will use both medical professionals and former addicts who have become counselors, since this type of broader approach may be a way to help people. Some people realize they have a drug problem and go on their own drug rehabilitation, others enter the drug treatment programs, as they have been ordered to do so by the courts, or because a loved one has requested as his last will. There are several current theories of drug rehab, ranging from the traditional d 12 steps or stages of change, models for harm reduction.
2. Who Pays for drug rehabilitation?
Funding for drug rehabilitation programs can come from many different sources. Some programs, like peer-led support groups, cost nothing. Other programs running on a sliding scale – in other words, the program evaluates the patient on revenue and expenditure of the charges and what the fair rate to accommodate the program. Some patients pay nothing at all. These programs are usually funded by private donations or tax dollars.

Other drug rehabilitation programs can be covered by one person in the health plan. Increasingly, the health insurance companies are seeing the need to cover drug rehab expenses, at least in part, because they often can avoid giving other serious health problems later. Under the plan, people may have to seek treatment with certain individuals or through certain agencies. The plan can also put a cap on how much to pay for treatment of substance abuse in a given year. Many plans, for example, cover a maximum of 28 days of inpatient treatment and may stop paying for each treatment, after ten or twelve sessions. This can be a difficult problem for someone who requires additional help to boost their habit.

The health insurance plan hospital used by the vast majority of elderly people in this country, pays for a lifetime total of 190 days in a psychiatric certificate. The health plan covers health outpatient visits with doctors, psychiatrists, licensed therapists, etc.. It is important that someone who is thinking about using their benefits health insurance plan to pay for treatment to be sure that the provider of health insurance plan is certified.

Finally, the cost of some drug rehab programs must be paid out of pocket. These tend to be private programs that encourage longer stays. Some of these programs do not follow acceptable medical practice and therefore are not eligible to be covered by medical insurance. Although some of these drug rehab centers tend to use unconventional methods, some have proved very successful, and with a more detailed examination, may in future be covered by medical insurance.

Some private treatment programs for substance abuse patients will make payment arrangements, others demand a substantial amount of money – if not all – in advance.
3. The Twelve Steps
The Twelve Steps, developed in 1938 by Bill W for recovering alcoholics and co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA). It begins with the premise that the alcoholic’s life has become unmanageable due to alcohol use. Alcohol his life away from God (or some understanding of a higher power).

Then, the alcoholic is asked to do a “fearless moral inventory itself, must admit to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of their crimes. The next steps (six and seven) are more controversial, and involve asking and requesting the highest energy (God) to remove and clean of sins. These steps have traditionally led atheists, agnostics, and others who do not believe in a personal god circumvent the Twelve Step programs. Steps eight, nine and ten is the participation of the people who announce they are damaged and, if possible, as amended. Steps eleven and twelve are again problematic for the nonreligious, as they focus closer to your higher power, a spiritual awakening, and the sense of the word to other alcoholics. Drug rehabilitation programs Twelve steps have helped people to quit their habits for a very long time, and have demonstrated a number of successes in recovering addicts.

Individual AA groups differ on how to follow up the steps and how insistent of its members to reach a higher energy. However, in 1999 the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that an atheist could attend an AA and could not be questioned in court.
4. Stages of Change
Stages of change in the theory of drug rehabilitation recognize that persons with a substance abuse problem go through many different stages, and that different treatment approaches are needed for each stage.

The first stage is denial of the change at this point, the client does not recognize that anything is wrong with your life. ( “So sometimes it is expensive. I have a problem.”) At this stage, the therapist should probe to find out amicably if the client is perceiving something negative about him.

The second stage is contemplation. At this point, the client knows he or she has a problem, but not quite ready to act. ( “Okay, I know I should but not at this time.”) Again, the therapist’s job is to facilitate the expression of ambivalence that the client feels about your drug use.

The third stage is preparation. The client is active in collecting and preparing tools for change. ( “When I run out of drugs on this occasion, I will buy more.”) The therapist now has a more active role by arming the client with tools for change and expressing confidence that the client can do.

The fourth stage is action. The customer has taken the decision to change and act on it. ( “That’s all.” No more drugs for me. “) This phase has a large amount of energy, and a support, the resources of the therapist who is an imperative. During this stage, references to support groups to treatment programs or other come.

The final stage is the maintenance and relapse. The maintenance of a new lifestyle is hard work, and most clients fall at least twice before leaving the habit of substance abuse for good. The therapist can vaccinate against these relapses customers saying what he or she expects of them and to reassure customers that a relapse is not the end of the world.
5. Rehabilitation of Drug and Harm Reduction Model
Historically, outcome studies for drug rehabilitation centers have been considered only one question: Does the patient remains sober during and after treatment? The harm reduction models suggesting a change in approach if the patient remains after drinking or taking drugs during treatment or if the patient causes less harm to self and society after treatment.

Abstinence is a possible target used in the treatment model of harm reduction, but not alone. Others may include a decrease in criminal behavior (such as domestic violence or driving under the influence), the improvement of relations with the family, practicing safe sex, etc..

In the traditional approach, for example, if a man after five months of rehabilitation that resumed on drugs is considered a treatment failure. The harm reduction model that evaluates all human behavior. Perhaps no longer driving under the influence of drugs. Perhaps you do not drink in front of their children. Maybe now she can maintain a job despite his heavy weekend. All these factors are considered at least partially on the success of harm reduction model.

The reduction of the damage was first used as a strategy in 1972, after several teenagers in a southwestern city were killed or seriously injured after “breathing” (inhalare glue or paint). The drug rehab programs that offer local continues to urge teens to abstain from inhaled, but also taught safer ways to breathe if they were to do so. It is attributed to inhalation-related deaths occurred in the community.

The harm reduction model has reached a great deal of criticism by those who equate with the legalization of drugs and of those who believe that complete and total abstinence is the only acceptable goal of drug treatment.
6. Detoxification
The first goal of most drug rehab programs is detoxification of the body and so get the user through the withdrawal symptoms to think clearly about treatment options. Detoxification literally means poison or toxin get something. Due to the withdrawal of these drugs in the body it can cause so many alarming symptoms (including deaths stress on the heart), detoxification is almost always done in a hospital base.

There are two types of social facilities, detoxification, – not doctors – and doctors. A social detoxification service has no medical personnel available if there were to produce an emergency situation. The staff with whom they have sometimes received only the most elementary training in drugs or drug withdrawal. In many communities, social services detoxification function as shelters for the homeless drugged or intoxicated. The installation of these nuclei gives addicts a safe place to sober up at night. The next day, the addicted person can choose to enter a treatment program or return to the streets. It is rare for most social detox centers do not have a high conversion rate to reach its customers to further treatment possibilities.

Medical detoxification is supervised by medical personnel. People are sent to hospitals for acute intoxication or health problems related to their addiction often come to medical detoxification. During medical detoxification, a patient had vital signs monitored closely so that staff can respond to early warning signs of life. The patient may also be given medications to ease withdrawal symptoms. Medical detoxification usually takes between three days and one week after the patient is released or referred to continuing treatment.
7. Inpatient treatment
Treatment drug rehab hospital refers to any program where drug addicts are at the facility during treatment. Depending on how the program is structured, and preferences of users of drugs, the inpatient treatment programs can last from a few days to over a year. Most insurance will cover duration is approximately one month

The drug rehab of a hospitalized patient is often quite intense, and offers several forms of treatment. Most drug treatment programs, hospital sent assistance to the treatment groups using 12-Step model. A substance abuse may be asked to attend several groups at 12 steps per day, initially at least.

Besides the 12-step groups, there may be educational groups, where one speaker describes what drugs cause the body or offer tips for maintaining sobriety after discharge.

Some drug rehab centers offer art or music therapy, for patients to find new and different ways of expressing their feelings. Apart from the groups, rehabilitation centers, drug hospital usually provides that the patient meets one on one with a counselor their substance abuse. The substance abuse counselor can often meet the patient’s family and significant others as well as to address systemic issues that may have contributed to substance abuse.

Finally, the patient may meet with a social worker to discuss arrangements for management. A homeless person, for example, may be referred to a house or a house.
8. Treatment at outpatient
The outpatient drug rehab can mean anything from a weekly meeting of support group or therapist with a visit to an intensive day treatment program. The day treatment programs generally offer almost the same program as the program of inpatient rehabilitation treatment (ie, program 12 – Step, education groups, individual counseling, social services, medical and Dietary Assessment, if necessary, etc.). The only difference is that the patient goes home at night. The patient also may be asked to take random drug tests as a condition for remaining in the program.

Another type of outpatient treatment program is a call “home.” Guest homes are supposed to act as a bridge between inpatient and independent for the treatment of substance abuse. Some shelters are specifically designed to meet the needs of pregnant women with small children. Most shelters have very strict rules that require residents to use them to attend evening meetings of 12 Step, to take random drug tests, to do their share of household chores, etc. .

Other outpatient drug rehab, such as outpatient counseling or support group attendance are much less structured in time and money. Unless the court so orders assistants support groups or individual therapy may not require drug testing.

The outpatient treatment of drug rehabilitation are certainly more appealing than the drug rehab hospital for many patients, allowing them to continue the work, family life, recreation, etc.. In 1993 he published a study in psychiatric and it was found that those who received only outpatient treatment were four times more likely to have “early treatment failures” – which is an early relapse and leaving the treatment.
9. Who needs it?
When most people think an alcoholic or drug addict, I imagine homeless in the gutters of streets. In most people’s minds, for example, a person clearly sees the needs of drug rehab.

However, most people with drug and alcohol problems do not fit this stereotype at all. Despite his drink and drugs, many continue a life that seems quite functional, at least on the surface. A child may know that mom always drinks too much or a co-worker may notice that often smells of marijuana when he returns from his food, but most addicts are able to maintain your problems well hidden for many years.

Even the addict himself may not realize when the line between recreational use and addiction has been crossed.

Most professionals suggest that people seek treatment if your drink or drugs are interfering with your life. But again, addicts often have trouble assessing the amount of interference that drugs or alcohol can cause. Someone who is not willing to change can blame others for their problems. ( “I do not drink too much, my wife is just a tiresome,” “Everybody uses drugs in college, these people have only grown and have lost their sense of fun.”)

There are several online tests to try to help drug and alcohol users to decide whether it exceeds or not drug use is becoming a problem. In addition, doctors and psychotherapists may also administer screening tests.

In short, people who suspect they have a problem are the scholars who explore their behavior with drugs and if necessary, discuss treatment options.
